CPI (M) in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday kick-started its ‘Jan Akrosh Jatha’ from Kulgam to mobilise people against what the party described as growing economic distress and anti-people policies.
The procession was flagged off by the party’s State Secretary Mohd Abass Rather.
Addressing the gathering, Rather said the Jan Akrosh Jatha aims to reach out to people and highlight the hardships faced by farmers, workers, youth and other sections of society. He said the party will use the march to raise issues affecting livelihoods and build public support around them.
The Jatha will highlight the crisis faced by apple growers, demand waiver of KCC loans for farmers and protection of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Rather added that the party will also raise the demand for regularisation of daily wagers, casual labourers and scheme workers, including Anganwadi, ASHA and Mid-Day Meal workers, and seek withdrawal of the electricity tariff hike.
The purpose of the Jatha is to unite people against policies that benefit big corporations while ignoring the struggles of common people.
He called upon people from all walks of life to join the movement and raise their voice for justice, livelihood security and democratic rights.
He added that the Jan Akrosh Jatha will pass through different areas, interact with people and mobilise opinion around the issues confronting the region.
Senior CPI(M) leaders including Mohd.Afzal Parray, Mohd.Yaqub Ganai, Zahoor Ahmad Rather and Ramesh Bhat also addressed the Jan Aakrosh Jatha and condemned the US-impeeialism and Zionist Israel for attacking Iran and killing innocent people including school going children and appealed the international forums to exert their efforts to stop these brute powers to stop aggression on Iran.
Large number of party activists and supporters participated in the flag-off programme and pledged to strengthen the democratic struggle for the rights of the people.
