Senior CPI (M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Wednesday expressed concern over the registration of FIRs against Kashmiri students at Mewar University in Rajasthan after they protested over the recognition status of their nursing course.

In a post on X, Tarigami said it was “very unfortunate” that cases had been lodged against Kashmiri students, adding that such incidents contribute to mistrust among people.

Over a dozen nursing students from Kashmir were booked after they staged a protest at the university seeking clarity on the recognition status of their course, according to reports.

“Very unfortunate that FIRs have been lodged against Kashmiri students at Mewar University in Rajasthan. Be it students or traders, Kashmiris are repeatedly facing harassment in different parts of the country. Such incidents only deepen mistrust. Requesting the Hon’ble Union Home Minister (Amit Shah) to kindly intervene and have these FIRs withdrawn,” Tarigami said in the post.

The students had reportedly protested on the campus after concerns were raised about the recognition of their nursing programme.
